I have noticed that the bottom metal plate is held in place by only two rivets, and while smashing a can, I have to hold the bottom plate from tilting forward or the can shoots out.

I have been using this can crusher for over a year now and it is still working great. There is not even a hint of decreased performance. It still crushes aluminum cans as good as the day it arrived new via Amazon. And its physical construction is holding up very well, it still looks new, no deterioration at all.

I am not sure about the durability of the unit yet and will see how it goes.
The rubber pad at the bottom is not of high quality and was damaged after the first crushing of a can. It has continued to degrade over time.
