About Sawyer Products SP129 Squeeze Water Filtration System
Overall Feedback:
92% positive
89% praised for its long-lasting durability, while 11% experienced a shorter lifespan
I used the filter for a few years and it worked great while filtering water from Sierra streams, springs, and lakes.
I have noticed that the plastic construction of the filter is not top-notch and requires careful handling. The O-ring comes unseated easily and wears out quickly, and the plastic construction is liable to snap if over-tightened. To avoid mold taste, it is important to clean the filter for long-term storage and carry an extra O-ring while being careful when tightening the bottle. Additionally, the filter can break if dropped incorrectly, so back flushing with vinegar or a tiny bit of bleach during long-term storage is suggested.
I am worried that the filter might be a problem in the future as it is held on by a bit of friction.
In cold weather, the micro fibers in the filter may freeze and break, making it unsuitable for mountaineering or winter camping.
I noticed that the gasket at the entry to the filter deformed and while trying to keep a seal and prevent unfiltered water from dribbling down into the bottle of clean water, he screwed the bottle with unfiltered water on too tight and it broke the black plastic plate (the bottom part of the filter casing).

The plastic filter construction requires babying as the O-ring comes unseated easily and wears out quickly. Carrying an extra o-ring is suggested. Over tightening a bottle may cause the plastic to snap.
I can see that the filter is held on by a bit of friction and it may become a problem in the future.
The filter is not as durable as claimed by the manufacturer and only works for a limited time in the real world, as I noticed.
84% appreciated its easy cleaning
Cleaning the filter is very easy. I back-flush the filter every use. The filter performs great and seems to last forever.
The filter works perfectly to remove microplastics and the water tastes slightly cleaner.
Cleaning the filter is super easy when the flow starts slowing down. I just grab a small bowl of clean filtered water and push it through the reverse side of the filter to unclog all the gunk.
The flow rate has been great and it takes only a minute to clean 1L of water.

88% found it easy to use
The Sawyer Squeeze is easy to use and has simplicity and versatility.
I never filtered water before but I watched videos to understand the concepts. It's not as fast as some other styles but it's worth it for the low weight.
It is easy to use and maintain, adaptable, and has a suitable flow rate.
I find this water filter very easy to use. The steps include filling up the bag with water from a water source, screwing the filter onto the top, and pointing the spout into whatever you are refilling.
Based on other user reports, the filter is easy to use and inexpensive.
The product filters well and is easy to use with minimal squeezing.
I had never filtered water before, but I watched videos to understand the concepts before heading out. This shows that the product was easy to use for me.
87% appreciated its effectiveness, but 13% questioned its effectiveness
In situations where the water quality is poor, the Sawyer filter is effective.
It's not the fastest style, but the low weight makes it worth it.
If you don't rush the filtration by over squeezing it, the filter is excellent. Just take time out and allow the filter to do its work while you have a short break.
I had never filtered water before, but I watched videos before heading out to ensure I understood the concepts.
87% liked its lightweight and compact design, but 13% found it bulky
The filter is light weight and affordable, although it is a little slow.

This water filter is a great way to not worry about water when on hiking or kayaking/canoe trips.
I carried the filter system in my pocket at various times when I knew I would be near water, indicating that it is small and light.
It is not suitable for group use due to the flow rate, but we can set it up as a gravity filter from a large storage bag at camp.
92% praised for its fast water flow rate, while 8% found it slow
The water flow rate of this product is amazing. It comes through fast with gravity and can be pushed through with the hand. I can fill 32oz in less than a minute.
The flow rate of our water filter is great and it only takes a minute to clean 1L of water.
The flow rate is quick, about 1L a minute in the field, possibly faster but my hands may tire.
The flow rate of our water filter system is great and it only takes a minute to clean 1L of water.
I am concerned about the long-term durability of the bag, despite it feeling pretty durable. A sharp stick or rock could potentially cut or pierce the bag if it fell hard.
