About Katadyn Vario Water Filter, Dual Technology Microfilter for Personal or Small Group Camping, Backpacking or Emergency Preparedness
Overall Feedback:
71% positive
69% praised for its long-lasting durability, while 31% experienced a shorter lifespan
If taken care of, this system will provide a great way to purify water while hiking.
I should be careful with the inlet as it could break off if pressed hard against something.
I suspect that the plastic inlet barb is fragile and unprotected, and it may not be visible in the product photos and videos.
I need a more durable and foolproof filter.
66% appreciated its easy cleaning
I find this filter easy to use, simple to clean, and it attaches to wide mouth water bottle threads like a Naglene. It can also be paired with an MSR dromedary bag with the same threading.
After approximately 10 gallons, I have to clean the ceramic filter with the included pad to keep it pumping easily.
I can use the filter easily and it can clean up to 500 gallons of water before replacing the main filter core.
69% appreciated its effectiveness, but 31% questioned its effectiveness
I never got sick while using the Vario, which is a testament to its effectiveness.
If you avoid filtering really dirty water, the filter will likely last much longer and work better. Chlorine/tablets should be used before or after filtering for viral sanitation.
Oiling the O-ring helped somewhat, but it did not fix the issue.
65% liked its lightweight and compact design
The filter is somewhat compact.
70% praised for its fast water flow rate, while 30% found it slow
I set the filter to extended life setting and pumped water at an incredibly fast rate, much faster than advertised.
The seal for the pump head leaks at moderate flow rates, even below the specified 2L/min (or 1L/min for longer life setting).
68% liked its ability to filter large quantities of water, while 32% found it limited
The filter weighs 1 lb.
The Vario filter is not light.
The Katadyn Vario Water filter is heavier than the Sawyer Mini, which weighs 5 ounces.
The LifeStraw gives me peace of mind with its reliability and durability, providing access to clean water wherever I go.
