The case and pump of the filter have lasted me for 2 decades despite being hard on boots and gadgets.
I was disappointed with the durability of the product as the palm grip of the handle cracked off clean at the top of the pump shaft. The manufacturer should improve the design to prevent this issue from occurring again.
The filter only lasts for about 4 days of regular use.
Both units failed at the same point due to a poorly designed discharge connection that easily breaks when disconnecting the discharge tube. It cannot be repaired in the field, rendering it useless in the wilderness.

The Katadyn Hiker is a superior filter and pump.
I had a Katadyn Vario which I loved on its only trip, but it was bulky and made me nervous about its fragility.
I found it a little awkward to fill up multiple hydration bags and water bottles, and also had difficulty handling it when there was a shallow stream. It was hard to keep the intake off of the bottom and hold the bag and pump at the same time.
