About Katadyn BeFree 0.6L Water Filter, Fast Flow, 0.1 Micron EZ Clean Membrane
88% praised for its long-lasting durability, while 12% experienced a shorter lifespan
Our water filtration system is Swiss-made and can remove 99.9999% protozoa and bacteria to EPA standards.
I have used this water filter on overnight trips into the backcountry and also carry a water purifier wand and a couple of good old USGI canteens.
I have heard that the bag can be fragile but I have had no issue with it so far. I also plan to pick up a larger, compatible hydrapak bladder so I can filter more water on longer trips.
I found the product to be very fragile and prone to puncture.

86% appreciated its easy cleaning, while 14% found it high maintenance
I love the ease of use and pour-ability of the product. The silicone bag ensures worry-free usage without any risk of bursting.
It is important to give the filter a one complete fill rinse before the first use to remove any particles from the manufacturing process. I recommend rinsing the filter with tap water briefly when I get home and then air drying with the cap off.
I gave two stars to the product because it had a great idea and was easy to clean, but it failed to meet my standards as something I want coming in contact with my drinking water.
I need to be very careful while cleaning the filter as it is fragile if not cleaned appropriately.

The filter is easy to use, light and packs down small when not in use.

85% appreciated its effectiveness, but 15% questioned its effectiveness
I have found that this Swiss one liter water filtration system is effective in removing 99.9999% protozoa and bacteria to EPA standards.
For overnight trips into the backcountry, I have my water purifier wand and a couple of good old USGI canteens.
The Katadyn Befree Water Filter With Hydrapak is a Swiss, one liter water filtration system that removes 99.9999% protozoa and bacteria to EPA standards. Boiling the water filtered through the Katadyne system would add an additional degree of protection, and it provides a limitless resource of absolutely clean and safe water (up to 1000 liters in any case).
I have a water purifier wand and a couple of good old USGI canteens for overnight trips into the backcountry.
88% liked its lightweight and compact design
I was able to fit the Befree in my thigh pocket while it was filled and it was more convenient to drink from on the go than my USGI canteens.
I used the filter while traveling through US states with questionable water quality and did not get sick.
Collecting water is convenient with inline/gravity filters as long as reliable water sources are available on the route, eliminating the need to filter and carry 3 liters on my back while hiking.
I have found that the Befree water filter is an effective and easy-to-carry design for filtering drinking water.

70% praised for its fast water flow rate
The flow rate of this filter is almost like drinking from a sports bottle.
I could filter 2 liters of water and drink from the 3rd liter before others using Sawyer filters were done filtering their first liter. The flow rate of the water filter is incredible.
I compared the flow rate of this filter to my old Sawyer Mini and found it to be incredible. Although it does not adapt to as many water pouches and bottles as the Sawyer does, its bag folds up smaller and its flow rate is much faster. I have never been upset that I had to squirt the water into another container rather than being able to tether a clean container to the end like the Sawyer.
86% liked its ability to filter large quantities of water, while 14% found it limited
On extended backcountry trips, a backup water filter that is light and compact would be useful.
I have filtered over 250 liters of water with this filter without any issues, showing that it has a good weight capacity for camping/hiking.
I bought this filter to use on long runs and store in my running backpack. It's light, easy to use, and packs down small when not using it.
Carrying replacement filters would eliminate any weight advantage and they are expensive.
