The knife is razor sharp out of the box and maintains its sharpness well even after use. I used it to clean up a tree branch and carve it for a walking staff, and it cleaned the bark and softer wood of the branch really well. The only difficulty I faced was with the hard wood, but this may be due to the light weight of the knife. I was surprised that I did not have to sharpen the blade afterwards, and it still cut through paper just as easily as when it was out of the box.
