About SOG Fixed Blade Knives with Sheath
Overall Feedback:
87% positive
92% praised for its razor-sharp blade
I can easily re-sharpen the blade and maintain its sharpness due to the hollow grind.
91% appreciated its rugged build, though 9% experienced breakdown
The blade has good features like throwing sparks for fires, staying sharp, and having great spine jimping. It is durable and a good value for the price.
After 7 months of use, the tip of my knife broke.
I noticed significant notches on the edge of the knife where it met the thread, and the metal broke off between these notches after cutting the tags and threads, indicating a critical material failure.
89% liked the comfortable grip, but 11% found it slippery
The handle is a little thin but it is okay for my medium hands and grips fine.
The knife handle is uncomfortable and leaves marks in my hands. I used sandpaper to improve it, but it's not suitable for carving wood. It may be good for combat though.
86% praised the high-quality sheath, but 14% found it flimsy
I appreciate the quality of the kydex sheath that comes with the knife. It is a little tight but can be easily adjusted. With the kydex sheath, I can use a carabiner and attach it to my belt loop. If I have a slim gun sling like the kind that are used with airsoft guns, I can thread that through one of the holes on the bottom and around my leg. This is great because I can pull the knife out with one hand and it doesn't swing around when I run.
The Seal Pup comes with a black Nylon sheath that has MOLLE or belt attachment capabilities.
I found that the plastic insert in the sheath prevents the sharp blade from cutting it effectively.
The sheath's molle webbing is out of spec and does not attach to any LBE correctly.
I have mentioned that the blade is made of 9CR18Mov steel, which is a high-end Chinese stainless steel popular among blade manufacturers globally. It is slightly better than the ANSI 440B steel and has good strength, corrosion resistance and great edge retention.
