About Ka-Bar Becker BK9 Combat Bowie Fixed Blade Knife
Overall Feedback:
91% positive
88% appreciated its rugged build
I have used this knife hard while backpacking, splitting a ton of wood up to 8 inch logs with ease. It drives through knots in hard wood and only needs minor touch ups.
I have found that the durability of the knife is as good as people claim. However, I do not trust the handle scales out of the box. I took the set screws apart and put locktite in them, and wrapped the grip with hockey tape. In my opinion, this is the minimum modding that needs to be done to ensure that the knife will last and be reliable.
90% praised the high-quality sheath, but 10% found it flimsy
The sheath has high-quality molle-style attachments all along the back, integrated lashing holes, a strong Velcro belt loop, and a pull-tab for easy adjustment.
The sheath is made of nylon with a kydex lining that keeps the knife snug. I read reviews from past purchases that the sheath was poor quality, but I did not find it to be the case with the current models.
The included sheath is of high quality with molle-style attachments all along the back and other integrated lashing holes. The belt loop is held by strong Velcro and has a pull-tab for easy adjustment, allowing me to put it on and take it off without changing my belt.
The sheath quality is lower and it's just a standard nylon sheath. A nice knife like this deserves a full kydex sheath.
I am dissatisfied with the quality of the sheath. It is made of nylon with a plastic insert and does not meet my expectations for a knife of this quality. I do not expect the sheath to hold up well over time.
The sheath quality is not good despite being well-built. There are few carrying options with this knife. I had to order a custom kydex sheath for it, which cost me $40-50.
88% praised for its razor-sharp blade, while 12% found it dull
The blade is slightly duller than other knives I've ordered, but still suitable for its purpose. The tip and the blade nearest to the hilt are noticeably sharper than the rest. However, I accidentally sliced my finger while trying to sheath it with one hand, indicating that I am not experienced enough to handle the knife safely.
91% liked the comfortable grip, but 9% found it slippery
The handle of the knife is a bit slippery, but it can be easily fixed with skateboard tape or grip tape.
I have used this knife hard while backpacking, splitting a ton of wood up to 8 inch logs with ease. It drives through knots in hard wood and only needs minor touch ups.
I find the knife potentially dangerous because it is light and hard.
