About Estwing Sportsman's Axe - 14" Camping Hatchet
93% praised the sharp and durable blade, while 7% found it needed frequent sharpening
The blade came sharp with minimal blemishes.
While using the axe on a small branch, the blade chipped and continued to chip away, indicating poor quality.
I ordered an axe but unfortunately received a chipped blade on the right and a rough edge with an indentation on the far left.
I noticed defects in the blade as soon as I removed the sheath.

The product performs flawlessly, looks amazing and is well-made.
The axe head is nicely finished and chops and splits relatively efficiently for its size. The quality of workmanship is also apparent when looking at it.

The axe is light, easy to keep sharp, and sturdy. I have been using it for over 25 years with no complaints.
The tapered head of my hatchet is thinner than most and very easy to sharpen.
I sanded off the varnish on the handle and soaked it with Fiebings neatsfoot oil, which improved the grip and made it easier on my aging hands.
I find the tool easy to maintain, light to use, easy to keep sharp, and sturdy enough to last for a long time.

92% liked the comfortable and balanced handle, but 8% found it slippery
I have provided detailed information on maintaining and caring for the leather grip of the hatchet, including applying Fiebings Neatsfoot Oil for an antique brown finish and non-slip feel. Once saturated with oil, the grip will be nearly impervious to the elements forever.
I will treat the grip with oil or a waterproofing agent to prevent the leather from getting wet and separating or shrinking.

86% appreciated the lightweight and compact design
I find the tool to be a little light, but it gets the job done.
The tool is light and gets the job done while on the go.
89% appreciated the built-in safety features, although 11% found them insufficient
The cover is not safe. While inspecting the edge, I scraped my palm while sliding it off and again while putting the sheath back into the cover.
Many people have injured their legs or feet due to the short handle of the hatchet.
I scraped my palm while sliding the cover off to inspect the edge. The cover is not safe as it also tried to scrape my palm while putting the sheath back into it.
