About Cold Steel Drop Forged Tomahawk Survival Hatchet
86% praised the sharp and durable blade
The blade is strong and can cut through everything I've tried. I've only picked up a couple of nicks in the blade since buying it, usually from either a rock stuck in the wood or a nail.
The hatchet's quality is top notch with a strong synthetic handle, serviceable attachment methodology, thick steel, high quality edges, grinds, and coating.
I have found the blade to be strong and capable of cutting through everything I've tried. I even managed to cut a 5 inch diameter tree in less than a minute without any damage to the blade, indicating its good quality.
84% praised the rugged and reliable construction
The hawk's quality is excellent in all aspects, including its strong synthetic handle, serviceable attachment methodology, thick steel, high-quality edges, grinds, and coating.
I have used the Trench Hawk and it is quite durable. I accidentally dropped it, hit the ground, hit the handle first, ricocheted, somersaulted along the ground, and bounced off multiple trees, but it is hardly damaged.
The product is very sturdy and the handle can be replaced at a cheap rate.
I have read reviews where the polypropylene broke the first time out, but I have used it and found it to be durable.
88% liked the easy maintenance
The axe edge is made of extremely hard 5150 carbon steel or 1055 steel and will maintain its edge despite severe abuse.
77% liked the comfortable and balanced handle, but 23% found it slippery
I love the cold steel Trench Hawk and find it superior to the SOG hawks. The grip on the Trench Hawk being swappable was a big factor in my decision to purchase it.
I love the cold steel Trench Hawk and consider it far superior to the SOG hawks. The grip on the Trench Hawk can be swapped out, which was a big thing for me when I was deciding to purchase it.
The handle of the axe is somewhat flexible and light when placed under extreme torque, which adds to its dependability. However, it is long by comparison to similarly priced hawks, and must be handled with extreme care and consideration while mastering one-handed use. The handle is barely textured, so it is recommended to make use of the lanyard eyelet on the end. Adding a grip element to the handle would be a good idea. The finger grips in the throat of the axe head are a nice feature for fine controlled blade movements.
81% appreciated the lightweight and compact design
The spike is extended for greater reach, making it more portable.
This Tomahawk is great for camping or on the trail. It chops well and can take down small and medium size trees easily, as well as rip through dead dried wood.
79% appreciated the built-in safety features, although 21% found them insufficient
The holster is a safety feature that allows me to hold the hawk in the belt or on a holder without the fear of slicing the belt or myself.

Fill the lanyard hole with 550 cord immediately to prevent serious bystander injury if the axe is accidentally released.
