About Pentel Fine Tip XFP Fude Pen Battery Ink Pigmentation
Overall Feedback:
68% positive
68% liked the vibrant ink colors
I tested the pen with a quick line and wash and found that the ink does not smear with watercolor paint.
68% appreciated the pen's and nib's durability, though 32% found the nib flimsy
I have been using the product on a semi-regular basis and it is good for inking drawings.
I had a hard time unscrewing the pen and removing the red spacer, and I thought I was going to break the pen in half. This indicates that the pen is not durable.
I expected the pen to be extra fine and capable of detailed work, but was disappointed to find that the brush thickness was similar to the Pentel Pocket and the line thickness was also similar unless I had the pressure strength of a baby bird.
I spent a lot of money on a fancy brush for watercolor but realized that I could have got a better brush for a much cheaper price.
81% liked the comfortable grip, while 19% experienced fatigue
I had to squeeze the pen almost every single word. However, I found a better option is to dip it in the ink, which works a lot better for me and I do not need to squeeze anymore.
I need to practice controlling my hand to finesse the weight of the lines, indicating that the grip comfort of the pen is not easy to handle.
67% praised the smooth ink flow, while 33% experienced clogging issues
I want a pen with a very fine line, variation, and control over the ink flow.
I love the waterproof ink and the variety of lines this pen can produce.
I advance the ink into the bristles by slowly and gently squeezing the barrel.
I find that dipping the pen in ink works better for me and eliminates the need to squeeze the pen, which can be annoying at times.
I have noticed that the ink flow is inconsistent and requires constant movement of the brush on the paper. To get the ink flowing again, I recommend gently squeezing the mid point of the body of the brush pen or shaking it in a downward motion with the cap on.
I had a difficult time removing the red spacer to get the ink flowing and thought I was going to break the pen in half.
75% praised the leak-resistant design
I tested the ink by applying watercolor paint and found that it did not smear, indicating good leak resistance.
70% liked the variety of line widths, but 30% found it difficult to control
I want a pen with a very fine line and a lot of variation, and I also want to be able to use my own ink and control the flow of ink.
With just a slight adjustment of pressure and angle, I can produce a wide range of line variations with the pen.
With a little pressure, I can mark a broad thick line and the brush tip is firm enough to mark a clean straight line.
I love the waterproof ink and the line variety that this pen can produce.
The ink included with the pen is thinner and comes out as a wet gray on paper. India ink is fairly cheap from hobby lobby and most scary stores, so I suggest using it with these pens for better results.
I am satisfied with the pen as it can create transparency or solid marks with high saturation of the white color.
