About Krylon K09901A00 Leafing Pen, Gold, .33 Ounce
Overall Feedback:
86% positive
87% liked the vibrant ink colors, but 13% found them inconsistent
The gold color is not too yellow and dries more metallic than competitors' brand.
I compared this pen to other gold metallic paint pens and found that it is truly golden, not a greyed out version.
I repainted the Power Rangers Lightning Collection Goldar using this pen. The original color was almost a mustard yellow and the end result is a great example of the color vibrancy of this pen.
I wanted a chrome gold look-alike but it is more of a brushed metallic look. Still nice if that's what you need for your project.
The pen color is not a match and has a grey tint. The steel metal is still greyed down gold even though it is overlaid on the gold finish.
The color of the calligraphy pen is not as expected, it is a darker, older gold than what I wanted.
The color has a grey tint to it, which makes it stand out worse.
80% appreciated the pen's and nib's durability, though 20% found the nib flimsy
The nib appears to be pretty durable.
The gold leafing pen has lasted for a year with regular use for gilding wax seals and canvas art projects, and is only now showing signs of wear and tear.
The markers last for a long time and can be used on almost any surface without any problem.
The pen has lasted for exactly a year and is only now starting to kick the bucket, proving its durability for regular use.
The pens dried up quickly even after using them only a couple of times.
78% praised the leak-resistant design, while 22% experienced messy leaks
I suggest a simple fix to avoid the leakage problem of the pen. Take a tray or paper plate and push the pen down to leave a small amount of paint on it. Do not empty out too much as it will dry rather quickly.
I bought this product to avoid the hassle of getting out the paint and brushes.
I could not do fine strokes with the pen as the ink did not show up on half of the tip, indicating poor leak resistance.
69% liked the variety of line widths, but 31% found it difficult to control
Restoring fine gold lines on porcelain will require some practice because the tip is multi-purpose and there does not appear to be a fine point product.
After the second use, the pen started blobbing paint and became dry/block in some areas, resulting in nasty streaks on my important project.
I warn not to use it on metal and not to expect it to match real gold.
The pen is not suitable for restoring fine gold lines on porcelain as there is no fine point product available.
I noticed that the pen became blocked in some areas and started blobbing paint, which resulted in nasty streaks on an important project.
The pen got blocked and started blobbing paint, resulting in nasty streaks on my important project.
I advise not using it on metal and not expecting it to match real gold.
I have noticed that the pen is mainly flat and cannot be used on small area details.
The ink included with the pen is thinner and comes out as a wet gray on paper. India ink is fairly cheap from hobby lobby and most scary stores, so I suggest using it with these pens for better results.
I can use the pen for both large and small sized calligraphy and it produces really pretty lettering.
