About TP-Link Tapo 2K HD Security Camera
Overall Feedback:
73% positive
84% found it weather resistant, while 16% faced issues
The camera shows clear HD video and is weatherproof.
I took my camera through a major rainstorm and it came through unscathed.
I had to adjust the settings to prevent false alerts caused by weather conditions such as rain or snow.
86% highlighted the storage capacity
I chose to use a 256GB microSDXC card for local storage instead of subscribing to Tapo Care cloud storage.
I put a 256gb sd card in the camera and it's not even 1/6th full with just event recording, which detects activity well.
82% liked the resolution clarity
The images have higher resolution than what I have seen from other cameras.
83% were satisfied with the remote accessibility, but 17% weren't
I have never used a camera with such a powerful Wi-Fi signal before. It is likely due to the high-quality antennas installed on it.
I have tested the camera with different cellular phones and connections and found that it can and cannot be accessed through cellular data connection, which is a major issue.
85% appreciated the night vision capability
I find the night vision capability of the camera useful when coming back late at night.
81% liked the motion detection accuracy, but 19% didn't
The camera has an option for AI-powered object recognition to differentiate between human and animal movements.
The motion detection feature of this camera is quite good with a lot of customization options. It can use AI to determine whether the motion is caused by a person or an animal, which is extremely helpful as I have a lot of feral cats in my neighborhood that would constantly set off my old cameras.
The motion detection is good, but it always detects motion due to the highway in front of my home.
Motion detection is highly sensitive and picks up even the slightest movement, including air movement. It also detects branches on a tree as an intrusion and sometimes detects a person even when there is nothing moving. Additionally, a moth in front of the lens is detected as an intrusion.
On the low setting for motion detection, I noticed that the camera detects everything, which may not be accurate.
On the low setting for motion detection, the camera detects everything, which may not be accurate.
Motion detection is not accurate as it goes off at night on every single car that goes by on the road, even with a block off rectangle over the road.
On the low setting for motion detection, the camera detects everything, which may not be accurate.
86% appreciated the integration with other devices, but 14% didn't
The camera is easy to use with compatibility to Alexa and Google Home.
Adding cameras via the Tapo app is easy and it automatically integrates with Alexa if the skill is enabled.
I am frustrated that the device uses a different app than the Kasa line.
76% highlighted the field of view, while 24% were dissatisfied
I found the camera's motion sensitivity adjustment feature helpful as it allows me to choose the part of the camera image where I want motion detection. This is particularly useful for me as a piece of tarp in my field of view always moves when it's windy.
I was hoping to use the person detection option to detect humans approaching, but it gets triggered too often as it takes into consideration the entire view range of the camera.
I am not satisfied with the view range of the Tapo outdoor camera. Comparing it with my Ring doorbell, I have to choose between seeing my porch or parking area with the Tapo camera.
I noticed that one of my cameras went foggy as water got inside. This indicates that the camera is not weather resistant.
One of my cameras went foggy as water got inside, indicating that it is not weather resistant.
After moving the camera location and tweaking some settings in the app, I have noticed that the motion detection works much better than before.
