I have found a great way to apply chain lube. First, clean the chain and roll it into a tight circle on a ceramic tile. Then, warm it up with a heat gun before applying the oil. If the oil smokes, the chain is too hot and the oil will be sucked into the rollers.
I have found a successful method for applying chain lube. It includes cleaning the chain, warming it with a heat gun, applying the lube, and then warming the chain again to dry the lube.
I applied the bike-lube as per the directions and it resulted in a crisp shifter, but it's not as smooth as the assembly lube.
I was hoping not to have to apply lube before every ride, but it's necessary.

I have tried many different lubricants over 20 years and this one took some serious abuse when I used it for the first time and went for a 3 hour ride in the rain and mud.
The lube provides just enough lubricity for the drive train to run smoothly and quietly.
After cleaning and re-lubing the chain, it stayed clean and provided smooth shifting.
