The mat is so soft! I'm ordering another one in taupe for my kitchen prep area.
I initially thought that the bath rug would not be soft since the layer didn't seem thick, but I was surprised after stepping on it after taking a shower. It is soft and comfortable to the touch.

I compared this bath-rug with the ones from Bed, Bath, and Beyond. This one is much thinner and has better absorbency. I am used to the ones from Bed, Bath, and Beyond which are much thicker, better absorbency and for the same price.
The bath-rugs are not absorbent and it feels like standing on a wet mat.
