I find that putting a ball in the best part of the pocket and wrapping up the glove before putting it into my bag greatly prolongs the functionality of my gloves, as they are much less likely to deform.

I prefer a wider elastic band to provide pressure from all around the pocket, helping the glove to cradle the ball while it rests. This is my negative feedback regarding the wrist closure system of baseball-infielders-mitts.
