These cups are easy to clean with a dishwasher. I rinse the cup and then take all the pieces apart - the bottle, the straw, the sippy spout, and the lid - and place them in the dishwasher. I have never had an issue with mold by cleaning them this way. Hand washing them would be a little bit more involved, especially for the straw - but the bottles do come with a long tiny brush that fits in the straw for proper cleaning.
