About Gates 36174 Idler Pulley - Black
Overall Feedback:
81% positive
74% praised the sturdy build
I am impressed with the quality of the Gates idler pulleys and never heard of them before.
The pulley's quality is top notch and it is holding up well as a tensioner pulley in my 07 ES350 with the 3.5 v6.
I would use the part again as it is of good quality.
I like this pulley because it has a wider bearing than the other idler pulleys.
84% appreciated the compatibility
The 36174 pulley is compatible with the 3.5 v6 Toyota/Lexus tensioner pulleys.
The idler pulley part number 36174 can be used on the belt tensioner of my 07 FJ Cruiser, with the 4.0 and probably all Yotas with the 4.0.
After replacing the idler pulleys, my engine idle became significantly quieter. The old pulleys were still functional but a fresh set made a difference.
83% praised the long-lasting durability
I like this pulley because it has a wider bearing than other idler pulleys, which may make it more durable.
81% found it easy to install
The installation process was easy and I was super impressed with the quality of the product. It's made in Canada, not China.
It is easy to replace.
80% liked the quiet operation
I suggest checking if the idler pulleys make any noise. It could be a useful tip for diagnosing the issue.
I heard a whining noise coming from under the hood after playing in the mud. I thought it was due to the alternator or power steering. After replacing the upper and lower idler pulleys, the noise disappeared.
82% liked the high-speed performance
After replacing the idler pulleys, my engine idle became significantly quieter. The old pulleys still spun fine and had no play, but a fresh set helped.
I suggest checking if the idler pulleys make any noise by giving them a quick spin by hand with the engine off.
I installed the pulley and noticed a wobble. I removed it and found that the bearing was not seated evenly. I fixed it by giving it a quick smack with a hammer/socket combo. The quality seems good and I would probably buy it again.
The pulley works well and appears to be of good quality.
