I usually plug it into an existing micro-USB charger cable for phone-type uses and have also run it off a battery pack for recharging phones.
If I don't need it to be portable, the battery not being rechargeable is not a big issue, but I wish it was.
I would have preferred a wireless light pad with a rechargeable battery. The USB port is the weak link for the light pad.
