I use gesso not only as a primer coat on wood cradleboards, but also to achieve depth and interest as I work through the piece.
I have never worked with gesso before, but I found the product easy to use and apply. It also spread easily.
I used art-paint for the first time and it worked great for painting under fabric and filling the pores on styrofoam.
