I tried to run the alarm clock on batteries but it only works for power outages.

The buttons are identical and doing different things. The most important button to turn on and off the alarm is sandwiched in the middle of them. I have to get up and turn on the lights to see the buttons more clearly in order to find the button to turn off the alarm.
