The drill bit is long and tapered, which makes it easier to make deeper pilot holes, and the stop collar is changeable so you can get a nice conical countersink while drilling the pilot hole.
There is a collar on the countersink cutter that I can use to limit the depth of the drill bit, and the drill bits have a special taper for #6,#8 and #10 wood screws.
I used the drill bits to drill a long hole into a 2x4 and got a great flush screw head that fit perfectly with the wood connection noted as I screwed it in.
I should have bought this years ago, it's an excellent quality, and it's a must have for any woodworker.
I have found the usefulness of the tapered hole to be very good, and I have bought sets for other wood workers.

The maximum depth is 2 3/8" with the cutter attached, and you can use the drill bit only if you want an extra 3/4" in depth.

Is it possible to countersink wood plugs all at the same time with this set?
A:
It's better to get a forstner bit and then predrill for your screw, because forstner bits are much more accurate in size.

Is the bits at max extension, or is it just at Lowes? The bits shown are too long for shorter screws.
A:
The collar can be loosened to move it up the drill bit shank towards the tip, so it's good for short screws as well as long ones.

Is it possible to change the length of the drill bit out of the countersink?
A:
Yes. You can use the provided wrench to adjust the length of the drill bit.
